On August 30, 2013, DZMM-TLC (Teaching, Learning, and Caring), the public service arm of DZMM TeleRadyo, visited Kamuning Elementary School for their third community outreach activity at Teach for the Philippines placement schools this academic year. DZMM-TLC has been one of our partners for this school year, and they have been visiting our partner schools every last Friday of the month.
Members of the Kamuning Elementary School community began entering the campus as early as 7:30 AM for the medical, dental and optical missions held at the school’s covered court. There was also a mobile dermatological clinic set up by the Philippine Dermatological Society, who also prepared medicine for the parents and students. A mobile library was also parked beside the covered court where the students could go in and read books throughout the morning.
Star Cinema, which is celebrating its twentieth anniversary, also took part in this month’s DZMM-TLC event, treating a class of students to a Star Cinema film at the multi-purpose room of Kamuning Elementary School. Shortly before the film viewing, actor Gerald Anderson visited the school and hosted a question-and-answer trivia game with the class, giving several prizes along the way.
Over at the library, our very own Amcy Esteban read Rene O. Villanueva’s Ang Barumbadong Bus (The Reckless Bus) to a class of Grade 1 students. Her animated and energetic storytelling filled the room with gusto and hyped the students up for the day. The class’s energy was sustained until later in the day, when ABS-CBN news anchor Julius Babao came in and read Philippine National Artist Virgilio Almario’s retelling of the classic fable The Ant and the Grasshopper in Filipino, appropriately entitled, Si Langgam at si Tipaklong.
Also present at the event were Dr. Luisa Puyat, and DZMM Special Projects Manager May Valle-Ceniza.
Teach for the Philippines would like to thank and acknowledge DZMM-TLC, Kamuning Elementary School, and all of our partners and friends for another successful community outreach activity! See you again our next outreach event in Sto. Cristo Elementary School this September!
