Teach for the Philippines Week 2013: A Tremendous Success!

The first ever Teach for the Philippines Week took place early this past September. In an effort to expand our movement, our organization recruited key leaders in both the public and private sectors to become guest teachers in several of our partner schools.

Throughout Teach for the Philippines Week, our guests taught a subject in one class alongside a Fellow in their respective schools. The subjects taught ranged from Math and English, to HEKASI (Heograpiya, Kasaysayan, and Sibika) and MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health). We hope that as a result of the Teach for the Philippines Week activities, the students of these schools gained exposure to different professional fields and backgrounds, experiences that may change their life trajectories. Furthermore, the event hoped to inspire the students to strive for success based on the examples of the guest teachers who serve as leaders in key industries.

Our guest teachers included the likes of Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino, Department of Education Undersecretary for Programs and Projects Dina Ocampo, ABS-CBN television presenter Boy Abunda, Synergeia CEO Dr. Milwida Guevara, National Book Development Board Chairperson Neni Sta. Romana Cruz, children’s author and publisher Ramon Sunico, Dr. Luisa Puyat of the ABS-CBN Foundation, and DZMM TeleRadyo Station Manager Marah Faner-Capuyan.
