SC Johnson has been a steadfast supporter of Teach for the Philippines (TFP) to address critical education needs of Filipino children since 2021. Their renewed grant with our organization will support the TFP teacher and student development programs being implemented across the country, while also providing opportunities for SCJ employees to participate in projects that will positively affect the immediate and long-term learning outcomes of our public-school students.
Every year, the Department of Education (DepEd) encourages members of civil society, private businesses, and public organizations to support the adequate preparation of public schools for the opening of classes. Brigada Eskwela, the DepEd’s Schools Maintenance initiative, promotes the bayanihan spirit, cooperation and collaboration of the Filipino people, to work together and contribute towards creating a clean, child-friendly, and inclusive school environment.

For the second year in a row, members of SC Johnson employees teamed up with TFP and Renovate to Educate (rED), an organization dedicated to “reconstructing” the classroom experience through on-ground activities that help improve public school infrastructure throughout the whole year. This year, SCJ employees came together at Pateros National High School, one of three high schools in the city, to create a safe and more conducive learning environment for students and teachers.

SC Johnson values the role education plays in transforming a person’s life. It is the key that unlocks countless opportunities for our children, their families and communities, to build a better future for themselves and others. SC Johnson is at work for a better world through this continued partnership by helping to improve the future of the Philippines, one child, one school at a time.
Coming from their rED activities last August 13, SC Johnson employees were able to repair and repaint 150 armchairs, fabricate 12 bookshelves, install 21 doorknobs, replace 5 cubicle doors, and repair 1 ceiling fan. These volunteers spent an entire Saturday to provide much needed furniture and supplies for hundreds of public-school students and teachers right in time for the beginning of the new school year.
SC Johnson’s support of TFP’s operations has been instrumental to deliver quality public-school education in our communities. Our shared efforts to address learning loss and ensure recovery among learners have contributed to valuable outcomes in the last two years. To date, SC Johnson’s support of TFP’s Leadership and Development Programs has benefitted over 5,000 individuals, 61% of which are public school students who have learned to read, count, and become better versions of themselves through TFP’s FLP and BBP. This year, we are poised to reach another ~2,000 individuals– public school teachers, students, parents, and community members– with whom TFP aims to support to shape a brighter future for all.
As we celebrate National Teachers Month starting this September, we are also reminded, even more so than usual, of the critical role educators play in opening doors of possibilities in a child’s life. Teachers are career-makers; they work alongside our students to dream and become responsible citizens that will contribute to our country. We are deeply grateful for SC Johnson’s continuous belief in TFP’s work– to support and empower our public-school teachers, students, and communities– and unyielding commitment towards building the nation through excellent education.
Teach for the Philippines and Pateros National High School extends utmost gratitude to the SC Johnson volunteers who joined us during Brigada Eskwela week!
